Project management has quickly become something that is used by most organizations when the organization wants to finish a project in a timely manner and within budget. Project management helps companies to meet their strategic mission in a planned and organized way. This paper will explain what project management is and the importance of it to the business world, the project life-cycle management and the benefits that project management has to an organization and the concept that goes into the planning of the life-cycle and how research and critical thinking is a mandatory part of planning. Organizations are finding that project manag ement is an important part of their organization if they want it to succeed, but the project management team will also need to understand the project life-cycle and the benefits of working with it. The project life-cycle made up of sequential phases that helpful when planning a project because the life-cycle provides a framework for budgeting, manpower and resource allocation. The project life-cycle is also used for scheduling project milestones and project reviews. â€Å"The method of division of a project into phases may differ somewhat from industry to industry, and from product to product† (Wideman, 2004). The project life-cycle basically goes through four stages. Those four stages are defining, planning, executing and closing. The defining stage is where the goals, specifications, tasks and responsibilities are set and defined for the project. The teams are put together and each are told what their major responsibility within the project will be. In the planning stage, the schedules are planned, the risks of the projects will be known and so will the budget. The planning stage is just as it is called.
